The bridge joins North Wall Quay on the north bank of the River Liffey to Sir John Rogerson's Quay on the south bank.

The cable-stayed bridge was designed by Santiago Calatrava and opened in 2009. It commemorates the novelist and playwright Samuel Beckett.
