John Vogler and his wife and children lived in this brick house starting in 1819. Today, we interpret the house to about 1840, one of the "later" buildings in the tour.

John was a silversmith and a watchmaker, represented by the painted clock over the front door. In addition to the home's living and working rooms, one room represents John's shop and store. It's also interesting to contrast a "modern" home like the Vogler House to the simple First houses and the Miksch, as the changes in Salem mirrored those through American culture, brought on by increasing civilization, success in business and the Industrial Revolution.
