  The meaning of etching erotic type of images on the temples signifies that everyone must see the process of the union of male and female as a divine union, whithout which, there is no vehicle for the humanity to come on to the earth by taking Human body, and without human body and with out coming on to the earth, there is no way to salvation. Hence, having erotic postures on the walls of temples symbolizes the attitude with which one has to see the union of male and female, and the purpose of these carvings is not to increase the animalistic sexual instincts. It is for the sake of instilling the same view with which you see the union of your own mother and father, without which you would not have been given a chance to take on the valuable Human body in this world. Ofcourse, weather you use your life for the sake of freeing from the clutches of nature and its slavery, is entirely to you. But the idea behind etching the erotic imagery in temples is to instill the divine view about the union of man and woman.
