Sugarloaf Mountain

The highest point in the Florida peninsula it rises 312 ft above sea level.
It is the 12th most isolated mountain in the continental U.S. with the nearest place surpassing the elevation near Moultrie Georgia 210 miles away (337 kilometers away).
It's located in Lake County, north of Clermont.
Views from the top include Lake Apopka to the east and Lake Harris to the north. On clear days the Orlando skyline can be seen.
It can be seen from the Little Lake Harris Bridge.
It is the northernmost part of what is known as the Lake Wales Ridge.

  • I just hope that it doesn't get bulldozed into suburbs but instead remains how it currently is or better yet, gets reforested permanently with the only building being a newly constructed tourist lookout tower similar to the Citrus Tower but eco-friendly as in NASA designing it.
  • I live on that mountain, most of us have a min of 5 acres and there are laws in place that prohibit that acreage from being broken down into smaller increments, for the time-being anyway. below and closer to the lake there is a golf course comm being constructed however due to the economy that has come to a halt. :)
