Ledra Palace Hotel (Nicosia [Lefkoşa, Λευκωσία])

Shelled by both sides during 1974 invasion. Paratroopers from the Canadian Airborne Regiment rescued and evacuated guests while under fire. Located in the no man's land between the borders, the hotel became living quarters for UN's Canadian contingent afterwards.

I've been to LPH dozens of times. The British Army Roulmont Regiments are based there on 6 month tours. I was with the UN for a year in 1999 and based at Nicosia International Airport.

I served with Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on three 7 month rotations to Cyprus. Ledra Palace was my barracks in 1978 and 1990. We manned Observation Posts and patrolled the Green Line during those tours.
