Munambam Beach (Muziris Golden Beach). Munambam Beach have been made due to a "Pulimuttu" which was constructed in the area. According to the scientfic report, it is due to this that the flow of the waters had changed, paving way for the formation of a new beach in the area.
Pulimuttu is the local name of the 1 km long bridge made of stone stretching in to sea. It is made by piling stones like a pathway to sea. Munambam beach must be familiar to some, since it is situated close to the very famous Cherai Beach. It is the northern tip of the Vypeen island and surrounded by Periyar River at the east & Arabian sea the west.
Beautiful chinese fishing nets also adorn the beautiful shores filled with fine grained sand. The ocean stole the fine grains from Cherai beach and deposited them in the shores of Munambam over the years. If you are a little lucky enough you can also spot dolphins in the waters.
Munambam is a small fishing village - and you can readily get fresh fishy curry with kappa at shops around the corner. Toddy shops are also there in numbers..
The beach is around 30km from the Kochi city. And along with my family, we set down on a car ride to see the beautiful beach. We drove furthur down the Marine Drive & through the Goshree bridges moved on to our destination. The Goshree Bridge connects the islands of Vypeen, Mulavukadu and Vallarpadam to Ernakulam / Kochi city.
