This is the location of the annual winter international Big Wave Africa competition.
On 30 July 2006 Greg Long of San Clemente (California) with a tow-in from partner Twiggy Baker, caught a wave estimated to be 21 meters high. This would best the 2001 record of 20 meters set by Mike Parsons at Cortez Bank.
