  • The Somerset Light Infantry were stationed at Wardieburn in the early 1950's while the bandit troubles were being fought. There is a book by Major KJ Whitehouse - The Somerset Light Infantry 1946-1959 - which goes int great detail about this period. My Father was the RSM of the Regiment at this time and we were living in Jalan Abdullah Hookum. We used to be taken to school each morning in Army trucks.
