Secor Building (Toledo, Ohio)

USA / Ohio / Toledo / Toledo, Ohio / Jefferson Avenue, 425

10 story 138,000 sq. ft. reinforced concrete building was constructed between 1906 and 1908 and served as Toledo's premier hotel for over 60 years. Designed by architect Charles Nordhoff, the Secor Hotel featured 400 rooms, a dining room and a substantial ballroom with servant's quarters on the 10th floor. Renovated in 1935, the hotel remained open until 1969 when the owners sought ,without success, to convert it into 130-140 efficiency apartments.

In 1971 Ohio Bell renovated the lower three stories for their bill paying center. By 1985 Bell occupied 6 floors with the remainder of the building containing professional offices and apartments. Bell relocated their operations in 1992 and the building became largely vacant. Since then new tenants include Horizon Science Academy which occupies two floors and Toledo Opera. In 2007 further renovations were undertaken to accommodate gallery space and artists lofts.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since April 30th, 1976.
