San Dieguito Lagoon

Amazing location excellent for birding (birdwatching). Red-winged Blackbirds are definitely guaranteed, along with dozens of Song Sparrows, a resident Black Phoebe, Wigeons, Teal, Pintail, Mallard, Ruddyduck, Bufflehead, and shorebirds like avocet and Willet. Bushtit are hard to miss foraging in the bushes alongside the trail once you go under the bridge near the river. Grebes are very common in the lagoon area. They also have a kiosk for resident waterfowl and other birdlife, as ell as a birdlist. Also look for other wildlife! But do not disturb this rare ecosystem of southern coastal wetlands--today, only 5 percent of original southern wetlands exist! So, stay on the designated trail (you are close enough there, as you'll see) and tread lightly! --Reed
