MacAlder was a Copper and Gold Mines. It produced more Copper than Gold. The deposits were depleted and mining here is no longer economical. Mining was stopped by 1965 and no more serious mining has been done.

  • No... this information is incorrect. Mining did not stop in 1965. I was living in Macalder Mine in 1965 and 1966. during this time new gold mine shaft was dug during this time close to a small river who's name escapes me. My father was the main Extraction Metallurgist responsible for developing the gold and copper extraction processes at the mine. The main copper mine was dug into a hill that had a large smoke stack on top. Great hunting back then and lots and lots of snakes especially Cobras.
