  • Fishermen village
  • This is a fishermen village where a lot more people are entertaining themselves using alcohol. They are in fact act upon what they hear...do not spend time on thinking or finding out what is said is true or false...they repend after the misdeed. Very minority are educated. The well educated of the olden era of Poonthura took advantage of the ignorance of the poor illiterate people. The shore is swallowed by the sea. hence, people are desparatly looking for a place to spend their free time...

  • Poonthura, a name derived from the Poovin-thara, was a land filled with variety of flowers and gardens grown exclusively for temples in Trivandrum. Once up on a time, it was the sole abode of flowers which catered to the needs of all the temples. It was specially patroned by the erstwhile Thiruvithamkoor raja kudumbam. The remnants of the glorious past of Poovin-thara can be seen in different part of the land. In due course, due to the variation in climate, Poovin-thara lost its charm and attraction as an abode of flowers and gardens. The climate change severely affected the land scape in such a way that it rendered the land not suitable for flower growth and almost made barren. However, off late ,the tamil population came to the land mass to tap the flower cultivation started calling the name as Poonthura instead of Poovin-thara, thus the name Poonthura continues simbolising its glorious past ... of ..flowers..
