Afshar is a district situated in southwest of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. Most of its population are of the Shia-Hazara ethnic group.[1][2][3] The district is known for the massacre of Hazara civilians that took place in February 1993. Wahhabi forces of Ittehad-e-Islami led by Abdul Rasul Sayyaf and backed by Saudi Arabia and Rabbani-Massoud government, slaughtered some 800 men, women and children.
