  • I stayed here from April 1984 to Jan 2001 (in the Medical Dept corner). All former residents who have contributed tremendously to Rotuma's development will have fond memories of 'Ahau. It'll be nice to have a reunion someday, somewhere & reminisce about: reef fishing in the moonlight, collecting mangoes at dawn, swimming in the vaitoka, playing rugby on Fiji's best ground & resting in the rickety pavilion. The Fiji Telecom Earth Station was opened here in 1995 by Hon Isimeli Bose.
  • Ahau holds strong memories for me. In November 1971 I was an 18 year old English VSO teaching at Rotuma High School when I developed appendicitis and was operated on by Dr Sakio Varea - using a local anisthetic!! It was a major event for me and is a story that has been told back in England many times! I was treated brilliantly by the Doctor, his family and by everyone in Rotuma. I wonder if anyone remembers that event?
  • Yes! My wife recalls that event. She had the privilege of being one of your students.
  • Wow it is so nice to view Rotuman again. I actually lived in Rotuma for ten years with my parents.
  • Ahau...Ahau!! I have very fond and unforgettable memories of this wonderful place on that breezy hill. Funnily, this was where cupid got me...I ran away to Fiji with a girl from Losa. What an experience that was....
  • I will never forget this place for as long as I live. I spent seven memorable months in Ahau in the name of development for this wonderful island that will always have a special place in my heart. So many wonderful memories of this beautiful island especially with the friendly people of Pepjei, Juju, Saukama, Haga, Tuoi, Tuakoi, Saolei, Lau Feavai and Motusa. Not forgetting the people of Hapmak; Aisake Penjueli and his lovely wife, Samson Penjueli, Mamatuki Wong, Micheal Penjueli and Paul (my brew gang), Maki and her wonderful family, Vamarasi, and, oh so many people to mentioned but their faces are clear in my mind even though I may have forgotten their names. Makarita and Joseph of Juju and Jiaoji and Alumita; Noa and her wonderful husband of Haga; the beautiful Akeneta of Pepjei; Sulio and his lovely wife of Saolei; the friendly couple who lives beside the small Catholic church in Lauand of course Akata of Saolei. My stay in Rotuma had been an experience that will last forever with me and made even more memorable by the people whom I have come to know so well. A place so far away from home yet a home away from home. I hope that one day I will be able to visit this lovely island again just to relive the wonderful memories of times gone by.
