Acorn Drive

This is a nonexistent street that is shown on MapQuest directions and the like. The street was proposed by the City of Bloomington, and it was rejected by the Oakwoods Subdivision Homeowners' association. The circumstances of this vote are questionable, as the first vote to build the street ruled in favor of the city. The higher-ups of the Homeowners' Association were unsatisfied with this result, so they started another vote, sending an agent door to door to pressure the residents to vote against the street being built. The significance of this street being that residents in the back of the neighborhood would have a more accessible exit and a more convenient route to many places.

You know how people are around here - not real crazy about change, or in this case growth. They like the "good ol' days" and still think of this as some small town that should never change/grow.

Yeah right! That's why the city has grown from a population of about 25000 people in 1980 to over 75000 today (and oh by the way it’s still growing). Sure you could attribute most of the growth to the centralization of State Farm, but the people I feel have done a good job with the idea of growth. The issue with this street was a matter of increased traffic on a street that they wanted to keep private, and not a matter of "growth."
