Nairobi National Park, established in 1946, was the first national park in Kenya. It is located just south of Nairobi. It is the only national park in the world that is close to a major city. The park is one of Nairobi's primary tourist attractions.

The park covers an area of 117 sq km (45 sq mi). It is separated from the metropolis by an electric fence on the north, east, and west boundaries, and its southern boundary is formed by the Mbagathi River. The park is predominantly an open grass plain with scattered bushes. The western uplands have highland dry forest, and in the south is a riverine forest. Several plants growing on the rocky hillsides are unique to the Nairobi area. The park boasts a large and diverse wildlife population.
