Taipei 101 (traditional Chinese: 臺北101 or 台北101; simplified Chinese: 台北101; pinyin: Táiběi Yīlíngyī; Wade-Giles: T'ai-pei I-ling-i) is a 101-floor landmark skyscraper located in Taipei, Taiwan. The building, designed by C.Y. Lee & Partners and constructed by KTRT Joint Venture, is the world's tallest completed skyscraper. Taipei 101 received the Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2004. It has been hailed as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World (Newsweek magazine, 2006) and Seven Wonders of Engineering (Discovery Channel, 2005). The building serves as an icon of Taipei and Taiwan as a whole. Fireworks launched from the tower feature prominently in international New Year's Eve broadcasts, and the landmark appears frequently in films, television shows, print publications, anime media, games, and other elements of popular culture. Taipei 101 is managed by the International division of Urban Retail Properties Corporation based in Chicago USA.[1]

The name of the tower reflects its location in Taipei's 101 business district along with its floor count. (See also "Symbolism" below.) The number is pronounced in English simply as One Oh One. The original name planned for the building, Taipei World Financial Center, derived from that of its owner, Taipei Financial Center Corporation and the formal name of the structure in Chinese: literally, Taipei International Financial Center (traditional Chinese: 臺北國際金融中心; pinyin: Táiběi Guójì Jīnróng Zhōngxīn).

On July 21, 2007, Taipei 101 was overtaken in height by the Burj Dubai in Dubai, UAE, upon the completion of that building's 141st floor.

  • This is a very busy place.
  • I was on the top of it on 5th August 2007; and I saw damper baby. This building is extremely hi-tech, with it's sprawling mall and the ultra-fast elevator that got me to the top in 40 seconds!

  • I got to go up here last December 2005 and even went out to the outside observation deck. It was very cold at the time since the temperature above is about degrees lower than on ground level. You also get to hear an eerie high pitched sound as the wind passes through the safety grills.
  • Very amazing skyscraper. Felix Baumgartner, an Aussi, base jumped from the top of the building in late 2007.
  • It also has the world's fastest elevator, and a luxury shopping mall that few Taiwanese can actually afford .... Excellent place to meet tourists from around the world. People from the USA, UK, Germany, Japan, China, Australia, and other nations can all be found congregating at the Observation Deck.
  • Beautiful building. So elegant, proportionate and inviting. Some skyscrapers literally sting the sky, some negatively affet their cities... but not this one. :)
