The Karangkajen Great Mosque (Yogyakarta)

Masjid Jami' Karangkajen or The Karangkajen Great Mosque located inside The Karangkajen village. This village located in south of Jogja City. The Mosque was built by Muhammadiyah organization. In the early time this mosque just built in one floor until in 2004 this mosque had major renovated and the porch was made into 2 stories.

However an earth quake was happened at May 27, 2006. The main part of this mosque was collapsed but the 2 stories porch just cracked so it still could be used to pray. In early 2007, the main part of the mosque which was collapsed, was rebuilt into 2 stories.

On the back yard (west side) of the mosque, there is Karangkajen Cemeteries. In that cemeteries, there’s a cemetery of Indonesian national hero of independence, he’s KH. Ahmad Dahlan. He buried along with his friends who together established Muhammadiyah organization.
