The oldest educational establishment in the Donbass (coal-rich region).
It was founded in 1873 as a head miners school which was meant to prepare head miners for the Donbass coal mines.
Dmytro Mendeleiev visited it in 1888.

In 1920 the school was transformed into a mining secondary school.
In 2016, the Lysychansk Mining Technical School was renamed the Lysychansk State Mining and Industrial College.
On June 6, 2022, the college burned down as a result of Russian shelling.
