  • true that, the best school that turned out to be full of hooligans and clever people, Duke of gloucester was the old name, Andrew Machua, Jamu (1992-1996)
  • Hooligans - in the school boy sense, absolutly. I too had a great time (1963-1966), many fond memories.
  • This is aguably one of the best schools in kenya. A school that has produced gentlemen and not hooligans. Am proud to be from jamu. i remember the school anthem..... the power of jamhuri deep inside our hearts embedded in the motto 'effort unending' the flamming desire to excell never parts.... jamu he! jamu ha ! arise and shine. Long live jamu
  • I was at the Duke of Gloucester School from 1963 - 1967 and I do remember Lalit Thakur. I still have a photo of his taken during in our class. (Form 4). Duke was a great school.
  • I was a student here from 1961 to 1964. I did not learn much in fact I finished here as ignorant and useless individual you can imagine. It was much later in life I learnt that what and how I studied here was to turn me into a stupid comprador petty bourgeoisie. I learnt nothing about history and liberation struggle of Kenya.
  • I am the current Principal as from 8th May 2007 to date of the school. The school is once again doing well.Currently the school is leading public school in the country in developing ICT as a tool for teaching. There are many other activities the school is doing well. Our email ad. is jamhurihighschool@yahoo.com Old boys and well wishers can get in touch with me to know about the school currently.Jamu is a great school.
  • I was Head Prefect at the school in 1962, which is the year I graduated and completed Form 6 (Mr. Sadiq was the pricipal then). I have nothing but positive things to say about my time at the school, which had very high standards and excellent teachers who cared. I am quite sure that the school is flourishing under Principal Wainaina's tutelage, and I look forward to returning to Nairobi and visiting the school in the near future.
  • I finished from Jamu in 1991 and I do not regret any one bit the experience from there. If I am who and what I am today, many years later, it is because of the dedication of the teachers. May the Jamu spirit live on... ANY OLD BOYS CLUB formation ideas??? May be we should get in touch with Mr. Wainana.
  • i finished in jamu in 1992 and i enjoyed the 4 years that the institution gave me to open my eyes to the world beyond and got me ready to adulthood ahh jamu ehh a jamu ahhh!!!!
  • I was in Jamhuri 1972-1974 and left for UK before finishing FORM 4 . I have fond memories and value the high standard of education. After some 35 years we are getting together in Mombasa. Looking forward.
  • I was in 2008. During my teaching practice, i enjoyed the cooperation that i got from the teachers,non-teaching staff and students. This was a place that had become home for my two term stay. The environmet is conducive for learning and resources are bounty. Long live Jahmu, Jammu eeh Jammu aah! Effort Unending.

  • I have just recently visited Jamhuri High School ina sports excahnge. I had the time of my life. The boys extended their hospitality as soon as we arrived and it was extremely sad to leave. They are far from hooligans, they are gentleman. they treated me with respect and understanding. I have made friends for life there.
  • I went on the same trip as hannah above.^^ i would like to say on behalf of everybody from England (holden lane high school & St Margaret Wards high school) we had the time of our life nothing will ever beat the experience that we had. This experience has changed our views on life, and that we value what we have so much more. We all made so many friends and will never forget them. They are very far from hooligans, they were so nice and considerate. Miss you all.. x
  • I attended from 1980-81 and completed my 'A' levels before embarking to UK. Teachers included Mr. Mohanlal (Math), Mr. Seng (Physics), Mr. Sheikh (Eng), but can't recall the Chemistry teacher's name. Great school then; helped established a solid foundation that fueled my spirit to continue in the education field. Pritpal - President, Coleman University, San Diego, CA 92123, USA www.coleman.edu

  • Duke of Gloucester was my school from 1959 to 1964. I managed the school library under the guidance of our Physics teacher Mr I.C.Patel. Fond memories of those precious years come alive even today.Hostel was newly built & so was the swimming Pool while I was a student there. I was among the first to take a deep in the pool under sports master Balwant - He was also the first resident teacher in charge of the Hostel. I am 67 and far away in the USA but those days at the now Jamhuri will forever be treasured.
  • Was a student in 1980/81 and really enjoyed my 2 years there. Can just about remember my teacher's names, Mr Mohanlal and Mr Prabhakar for Maths, Ms Munzu ( she was russian I remmber) for Geography and Mr Nanjom (sorry if I have spelt this name wrong) I think was for Economics. Amazingly even my late dad went to this school in the 50's sometime. I have some lovely memories of my schooling life which I will always treasure forever.
  • I attended Jamhuri High from 1968 to 1974 doing my O and A levels there after moving there from City Primary School next door where i had my first 7 years of education. The time at this amazing school was the best time of my life. It set me up for the challenges of life as I went on to University of Aberdeen from there. The school had excellent educational and sports facilities then. The experiences included falling in love with a beautiful Indian Diplomat's daughter who schooled there and getting caned by the then headmaster Mr Mwangi. (It wasn't for falling in love-if you are wondering). The school will always be a part of me. Effort Unending indeed.

  • David Thairu I was in Jamhuri from 1966-1969 and left to join my dads business in Lavington Green. It was around that time that the then Education minister, Gikonyo Kiano came for the changing of school name from Duke to Jamhuri. Mr. Wood was Head Master at that time. Mr Chiplanker and we used to make fun of how he pronounced words. Best time of my life was there. I remember classmates eg Tarik who did well in sports, Mohan whose family had a shop in then Government road. I live in Los Angeles and do have a school for orphans and poor kids in Elburgon Kenya. visit angelsforgotten.com / angelsforgotteninc.org
