 memorial, monument, obelisk

The McKinley Monument is a 96-foot tall memorial obelisk dedicated to the memory of William McKinley, 25th President of the United States, who was assassinated on September 6th, 1901 while visiting the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo.

Made of Vermont and Italian marble and surrounded by four 12ft long, 12 ton Italian marble Lions, the monument's obelisk serves as the symbolic center of Buffalo, located at the convergence of several main roadways. Like its counterpart in Lafayette Square, the McKinley Monument has long been a gathering site for rallies, demonstrations and public events since its 1907 dedication, most recently as the center of the yearly "Taste of Buffalo" two-day food festival.
