Government Chittur College (G.C.C.) was established in 1947.
Situated in a lush green 46 acre campus along the banks of the river sokanashini (the destroyer of all your sorrows), this has been the ultimate source of bliss for many many mallus of palakkad district. It is one of the first grade government colleges in Kerala with 16 UG and 6 PG Departments. It also boasts of two research departments.If you want to meet typical mallu guyz and gals with all their rustic charm, this is your perfect destination. The campus is also rich with a wide range of flora and fauna. Across the river are toddy shops that serve toddy on desks and benches stolen from G.C.C.

It will be an invigorating experience to visit G.C.C. in the months of July-August when the whole campus takes a shade of verdant green. Add to it the jingles of the sokanashini and the cool breeze blowing across the campus with the aroma of palakkadan paddy. you are in for something special.
If u cant really make the trip, u still may savour the taste of G.C.C. by watching the movie "Out of Syllabus."
And for those academically inclined silly guys, believe it or not this is one government college in Kerala where the teachers overdo their work...!

  • This is Govt. College, Chittur. I was one of the students of this college in the year 1982-85 for B.Com. The college is situated in the bank of River "Shoka Nashini". Myself with my close friends, Shri M.B.Mani & U.Ravi realy enjoyed the college life at that time.
  • One of the beautiful place on earth. Its really a nice span of 3 years(2003-2006) to enjoy there and complete the Degree(Bsc.Electronics).

The famous Carnatic musician Dr. TV Manikantan (Now professor in Delhi University) was also a student of the Music from this college. The Member of Parliament Sr. N N Krishnadas was my batchmate. The famous cine-actor Krishna chandran was one year senior to me. Like this, the college has a record No. of famous personalities. I am proud that I was a student here. (JP)

  • the most unproductive, idiotic and pathetically dull period of my life was spent in this dead institution. all i remember is a suicide of a classmate in the college campus, a few road accident deaths in front of the college, regular campus violence, a dilapated stinking hostel, a sinking physics laboratory, lots of zombie professors, not to foget a nauseating affair between two of our physics faculty - an arrogant unmarried male lecturer and his married matronly senior. i puke when i think of anything remotely connected to this freakin so called college. barf barf barf barf.........
  • I was a student of Chittur College during the year 1973-75 doing my degree and PG in Tamil Language and Literature. I secured I rank in both my BA and MA an am now holding an important academic position in one of the deemed universities. I still carry fond memories of this great institution which still provides all facilities for a serious, focused learner. You come across a variety of people from whom you can learn many lessons. Prof Venkatesa Shenoy was our Principal and Prof Jesudasan was our HOD. May their souls rest in peace. Santhosh, Sasi were the KSU leaders. Ragu and his sister were the leaders of SFI. Prof Ravindran and his wife were teachers of Economics. Bhanumathi was a leading athlete.
