| Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery Newly refurbished and reopened in July 2006, the refurbishment resulted in a considerable increase in exhibition space and a notable change in the presentation of the exhibits with much more interactivity and background information. The breadth of exhibits is astounding. The collection includes some of the world's finest examples of Flemish, Renaissance and French art, as well as a host of British artists. The "Museum" side of things runs from Egyptian sarcophagi to a Supermarine Spitfire (suspended from the ceiling - quite the most remarkable display in the whole building). Kelvingrove once again houses Salvador Dali's "Christ of St John of the cross" (returned to its original home, having been purchased by the City of Glasgow in 1952 for the princely sum of £8,200). Splendid day out. Take the kids (and if you don't have any kids - take yourself!) Maintained by the people of Glasgow. Free admission but donations welcomed.
