The Neues Palais (New Palace) is situated on the western side of the Sanssouci royal park in Potsdam. The building was begun in 1763, after the end of the Seven Years' War, under Frederick the Great and was completed in 1769. It is considered to be the last great Prussian baroque palace. It was the summer home of the last Kaiser, Wilhelm II, until his abdication in 1918. He took the furnishings with him into exile in Holland, but they were returned by the Dutch government in the 1970s, and the palace today looks much as it did during WWI.
