This intersection has been given the name of the "Diamond" because of a unique configuration of railway tracks on the south-west corner of the roadways. It is here that the rail lines of the CPR and the CNR cross over each other to form a diamond pattern. One might wonder at the wisdom of having two major railways intersect in this way, however the CNR track is seldom used today, which should help with safety concerns. Ice cream lovers may remember the popular Diamond Confectionery that once stood near this location.
