Grobbendonk

Belgium / Antwerpen / Grobbendonk /
 village, draw only border

Grobbendonk with the part-municpality Bouwel, lies picturesquely at the confluence of the rivers "kleine Nete” and “Aa”. This green resort exudes an unexpected rural tranquillity.

De flourishing diamond industry gave Grobbendonk the title "slijpersdorp” (grinder village). In 1885 the first diamond grindery of Antwerp transferred to “de Kempen”.
During the years 1926-1930 the diamond business came to a hold. Factories closed their doors and cottage industry took its beginning. A few years after World War II reforms were necessary.

The “Albertkanaal” (Albert canal) and the “Boudewijnsnelweg” (E313 Highway) have brought a number of industries to Grobbendonk.
But the ideal connections to Antwerp led to a significant residential extension (allotments) which has enhanced commuter flow.
