Znamenka was aquired by Nicholas - I in 1835 as a gift for his wife Empress Alexandra Fiodorovna. Became a part of the summer residence of the Royal family. Destroyed during WW-2, it was restored in 1968. Now a holiday hotel where the Auroville International meeting was held in June 2001. Bobby, Bindu, Alain G, Don - Marie Ange, other Aurovilians and friends of Auroville stayed here.
