A railway station on Vilnius-Lida line, serving the southern industrial neighbourhoods of Vilnius and Vilnius International Airport. Also it is used as a stop for suburban service Vilnius-Stasylos.
It is interesting to note that freight traffic is prohibited between Vilnius and Kirtimai railway stations because of very steep gradient. During the Second World War a train full of explosives and broken brakes was let loose from Kirtimai downhill. After this major crash only relatively light passenger trains are allowed between Vilnius and Kirtimai. All of the freight to Kirtimai is hauled via Valčiūnai and Vaidotai stations instead.
