The marsh-meadow is situated in a pretty neighbourhood, as it is surrounded by the forests of the Bakony on all sides. Maybe that is the reason why it could preserve a colder microclimate than its surroundings, which is resulted by constant evaporation.
Originally the area was a karst egg-shaped depression of north-south orientation, in which a spring-lake may have been supplied by several karst springs. However the depression slowly silted up and during succession it turned into a marsh-meadow (once they tried to drain it). Water supply is still provided by springs working in the depth. Depending on water output, the springs even sustain smaller lakelets here and there.
Several sedge and club-rush associations live in the area, with such protected plants as the Siberian iris, or orchid species like the rare white flowered lady's-tresses or the marsh helleborine. But the most prominent stand of the area is the wild leek (Allium suaveolens), which survived the glacial preferring a cool microclimate. Hundreds of thousands of stems grow in the marsh-meadow with an intensive scent perceptible even in the distance during flowering.
The fauna of the area is also precious, as several aphibian and reptile species, and those of waterbirds live and hatch on the marsh-meadow.
