Constructed in 1810 to serve as a reservoir for the North Inner City. Used by the nearby Bow Street and John's Lane breweries up until the 1970's.Refurbished in 1994 and now a city park.

Along the north wall of the basin is Austin McQuinn's 1994 sculpture entitled Natural Histories.
