SMURRF (Santa Monica)

This is the SMMURRF, the Santa Monica Urban Runoff Recycling Facility. Instead of rain water draining from streets into the sea, taking engine oil and dog doo and all sorts of other horrid stuff with it, it is collected here, cleaned, and used to water public gardens and flush toilets in some buildings.

Many of the sprinklers near here have signs that say "Don't drink".
