This is a museum to commemorate the event a huge tsunami that hit Aceh on December 26, 2004 that claimed more than 240,000 people. Museum design was designed by Ridwan Kamil from Indonesia, built on land about 10,000 meters, located in the provincial capital of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. Museum building was designed in order to function well as a garden city.

Building a traditional house of the people of Aceh, stage a house is taken as an analogy of building a mass base. With the concept of houses on stilts, this building could also serve as a garden escape hills shaped that could be used as one of the anticipated location of the rescue if in case of flood and tsunami disaster in the future. Museum walls are decorated with pictures of 'saman' dance as a symbol of strength, discipline and religious belief communities of incredible Aceh. Exterior design express Aceh’s cultural diversity through the use of ornament decorative element of transparency elements of the outer skin of the building.
