It is currently experiencing strong development due to being included as part of the Gwangyang Bay Free Economic Zone, one of three newly created Free Economic Zones (FEZs) in South Korea due to open within the next decade.

Suncheon is the location of three well known Buddhist temples, Songgwang Temple, one of the Three Jewel Temples of Korea, Seonamsa and Cheonjaam. • Suncheon. City of beautiful nature and beautiful people. Clearly a case of false advertising. Two separate downtown sections. One being Shinae (old downtown) and the other being Yeonhyang-dong (new downtown). Shinae apartments is the "foreigner ghetto", or so the rumor says. Suncheon has 2 movie theaters- Primus Cinema and Lotte Cinema. Has the standard amount of markets, large and mega-chain stores such as E-Mart and Homeplus. Has a rail station and bus terminal for efficient travel to other parts of the province and country.
  • Suncheon is City of beautiful nature and beatiful people. Just it!!!
