Red Stone Quarry was owned by the Norcross Brothers it was the rock used in and for alot of buildings in the local area and also nonlocal places like the Bobst Library at The New York University. Redstone Lake encompasses over 26 acres with a majority of that acreage enclosed within an industrial grade chain link fence. The original Quarrying took place in the late 1800's to the early 1900's and again from 1965 to 1971 until the clean water act of that year shut down the operation beacause the water they were pumping out was going directly into the Schneelock Brook turning it a bloody red from the quarry to Allen Street and even a little beyond that. To this day the Schneelock Brook is somewhat murky in some areas but the water is clear you can see the bottom wich is a blacksh grey in some areas from silt but it is no longer blood red. quarrying could probly still be possible at Redstone but the water would need filtering first before entering the Schneelock.
