Chanonry point is a narrow peninsula jutting out into the firth north of Inverness, on the Black Isle. It is a prime place in the NE of Scotland to watch dolphin. One of the largest pods in Europe of Bottlenose dolphins at about 120-150 individuals, and they come in to within a few feet of the point. There are fierce tides here, and the water level drops and rises several metres. Also at the point is the place where the Brahan Seer was executed. On the opposite shore Fort George, a massive castle built not long after the battle of Culloden. Beautiful place, please, keep your dogs on a leash and don't lob stones into the water, you might hit or scare off the dolphins. You can also see common seals and once in a blue moon Minke Whales.
