Sam Houston High School (HISD) (Houston) Sam Houston High School is a 9-12 secondary school in the Houston Independent School District, located at 9400 Irvington Boulevard in Houston, Texas. Opened in 1878 as The Houston Academy, it underwent many name changes until finally becoming Sam Houston High School in 1955, after moving from downtown Houston to its present location. It is named in honor of Sam Houston, the legendary Texas statesman and soldier.
