The Whittier Citrus Association was formed by Samuel B. Hampton in 1901, packaging citrus products under the Quaker Brand label. Hampton previously worked for Griffin & Skelly (Riverside), Riverside Fruit Company, F.B. Devine & Co., and the Cahuenga Valley Lemon Exchange. After serving as manager of the Whittier Citrus Association, he left in October 1904 to manage the Corona Lemon Company until his death.

The former citrus packing house was constructed in 1902 and enlarged in 1904. In its final configuration, the complex consisted of seven buildings. Quickly becoming one of the largest packing houses in California, in 1906 it was shipping 650 carloads of oranges and 250 carloads of lemons per year.

King Richard's Antique Mall and several other businesses are now located within the former packing house.
