This was formerly the site of the Gem Cafe, first opened in the 1930s by by Jim Chrones Sr. It became Saskatoon's first licensed restaurant on Dec 23, 1959 and continued to operate until 1971. Jim's son, John, would go on to open John's Prime Rib, a steak house on 21st St W & 4th Ave that operated from 1974 to 2011.
