 city, draw only border

Milton Keynes is a large town in the borough of the Borough of Milton Keynes. For along time it was a collection of villages and the town of Bletchley, including one called Milton Keynes. A New Town founded in 1967, and the centre of Milton Keynes was built and the area was developed rapidly. The 'Forest City' is best known for its Grid Layout and roundabouts, as well as trees and lakes. Its population is about 180,000 and is planned to reach 300,000 by 2031. For ceremonial but not administrative purposes, it is in Buckinghamshire.

  • Unusual grid layout, common in the US. Vertical and Horizontal streets are set at 1km intervals. Each square is 1km(squared). Major grid roads are given a number: Vertical numbers start with a V and Horizontal numbers start with a H. 20m trees and several lakes mean it is often referred to as a 'Forest City', despite the continued absence of City status.
  • I have added a polygon which includes Stony Stratford and Newport Pagnell. The 'square' is just meant to give a rough outline of the town (a bit awkward given the angle of MK), while the polygon gives a far more exact outline.
  • the population is just over 250,000 not 180,000
  • MILTON KEYNES is Britain's first new city, taking its name from a tiny existing village. The population is planned to reach 200,000 by the end of the century. The North Bucks Way crosses the city on the 'Redway' system - a footpath and cycleway network that keeps walkers and cyclists away from traffic. There is a fine view of the city from the bridge crossing the A5
