PHASE 1 development has been nearly completed and it includes the following:
the Central Business District,
the Three Arms Zone (presidency, National Assembly and Supreme Court
as well as the Maitama, Wuse, Garki and Asokoro residential and business districts.
Phase 1 District of the city is divided into five (5) districts. They are the Central, Asokoro, Garki, Wuse and Maitama.
Phase 2 Districts are: Kado, Durumi, Gudu, Utako and Jabi.
Phase 3 Districts are: Mabuchi, Katampe, Wuye and Gwarimpa.
The five suburban districts are: Gwagwalada, Kubwa, Nyanya, Karu and Jukwoyi.
Along the Airport Road on the approach to Abuja City are satellite towns, namely Lugbe, Chika, Kuchigworo and Pyakassa. Other satellite towns are Idu (the main industrial zone), Mpape, Karimu, Gwagwa, Dei-Dei (housing the International Livestock market and also International Building materials market).

  • Abuja is what you get when you pour billions of dollars into one spot. Abuja is a new city that has received the kind of attention most other Nigerian cities have not. Abuja today is what Lagos was like in the 70s at the height of the oil boom before govt negligence, incompetence and a huge influx of people from the rural areas of Nigeria and West Africa turned it into a vast traditional African village. Abuja used to be temperate in climate but with so much human impact it is now hot most times of the year.
  • Apart from the huge sums spent in its construction,Abuja gets about 2% of Nigeria's revenue so it has enough money to spend on infrastructure.Lagos despite being a former Nigerian capital has been neglected by the government at the center hence the decay of a once beautiful city. I think the Nigerian government should do something about its cities as this has a direct effect on its inhabitants' quality of life and behaviour.
