History

Kaukas was founded in 1873 at Kaukaankoski rapids in Mäntsälä, first spool factory.
Moved to Lappeenranta in 1892
Sulphite pulp mill in 1897
Second pulp mill 1905
Sulphate pulp mill in 1964
Nordland Papier AG jointly with Kymin Osakeyhtiö in 1968
LWC paper mill in 1975
Third coater to paper mill in 1989
New recovery boiler in 1991
Biological effluent treatment plant in 1992
Modernization of chemical pulp mill in 1996

UPM Kaukas Sawmill is located on the site. UPM RC (UPM's R&D center) is also located at the site.
