High Cliff gets its name from its limestone bluffs that stand above Lake Winnebago. The bluffs are part of the Niagara Escarpment, a geologic feature which arcs back to Door County and then all the way to Niagara Falls. One of the few places in this part of Wisconsin not ground to a table flat smoothness by the glaciers of the last Ice Age.
