NOTE: The MV Lady Rose has been retired, but the route is still served by the Frances Barkley, and still operated by Lady Rose Marine.

From Argyle Pier, the MV Frances Barkley departs for day cruises along the coast from Port Alberni to Bamfield and Ucluelet. Tourists can see the Broken Group islands and stop in at Ucluelet, Bamfield and many other coves and bays. The vessel is a vital means of communication and transportation for isolated communities along the Alberni Inlet. Black bears and bald eagles are often sighted along the shore.

M.V. Lady Rose was a passenger, mail and cargo vessel operating year-round in Barkley Sound. M.V. Frances Barkley is a passenger and freight vessel. Normally assigned service on the Ucluelet and Broken Group Islands route she also provides service on the Bamfield route. These are working freight vessels and may occasionally switch routes.

The heritage vessel MV Lady Rose, launched in 1937, is Scottish built and was the first single-propeller diesel vessel to traverse the Atlantic under her own power. She operates year-round in Barkley Sound. She has been recently sold, and will be converted into a restaurant in Tofino.

The MV Frances Barkley was built in 1958 in Norway and was brought to Port Alberni in 1990.
