Reese H. Taylor Residence (demolished) (San Marino)

Designed by Roland E. Coate with gardens by Yoch & Council, the Reese H. Taylor Tudor style residence was completed in 1927. The home was located on approx. 2.5 acres of the original 4-acre parcel Taylor purchased in 1924 in Henry E. Huntington's Oak Knoll 'Marino' development in San Marino. The interiors featured a 2-story Tudor style dining room with a grand wall of diamond-paned windows overlooking the garden terrace and a carved wooden screen opening to the hallway leading between the entrance hall and service wing. Off of the entrance hall a 2-story circular stair hall with a dramatic cantileverd stairway provided access to the paneled library and Georgian-style living room. The house was demolished and the property subdivided in 1956.

Reese H. Taylor (1900-62), who attended Cornell University and UCLA, was director of the Llewellyn Iron Works (his father, Waller Taylor, was president) which merged with Consolidated Steel Corp. in 1934. In 1938, Taylor began working for Union Oil of California eventually becoming chairman in 1956. He was also a member of the Federal Reserve Bank Board.
