Modeled on the lines of St Pancras Station in London, Victoria Terminus, now called Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, is an example of Gothic Architecture at its best. Complete with carved stone friezes and stained glass windows, the station was designed by British architect F W Stevens. A 16 foot statue of a woman, representing 'Progress' stands atop the octagonal dome. India's first locomotive puffed off this station on 16th April, 1853. Today, it is the bustling station handling Mumbai's Central and Harbour local trains and long distance trains.
