The Town Hall exhibits various styles. The imposing classical style white and tan gabled facade from the end of the 17th. century was designed by Jacobus Roman. It actually conceals two separate older buildings, the former Raadhuis (town hall) on the left-hand side, the medieval Wanthuis on the right. Several annexes and yards can be found at the back.

The long lateral facade of the former Wanthuis in the Polstraat, with pilasters, is from 1662 and was built by the Amsterdam architect Philips Vingboons.

The former town hall accommodates an entrance hall, the old council hall, a coffee hall, the new council hall and a former public library. The Wanthuis features a large reception hall and offices.
