Nicopolis ad Nestum - ancient and medieval fortified town.
The remains of the ancient Roman town of Nicopolis ad Nestum can be found 7 km to the east of Gotse Delchev, on the southwestern edge of the village of Garmen. The town was built in 102 to honour the Emperor Trajan’s victory over the tribe of Dacia. The town declined in the Late Middle Ages and the local population center shifted southwestwards, across the Mesta Valley, to Nevrokop, now Gotse Delchev.
