Information about Tongalphodi Dam Irrigation Project.
Official Designation of Tongalphodi Dam Irrigation Project is " Tongalphodi Dam , D - 04947 " . However local and popular name is " Tongalphodi Lake / Tongalphodi Talav ". Tongalphodi Dam was constructed as parts of Irrigation Projects by the Government of Maharashtra in the year 1976. It is built on and impounds Kharpani River . Nearest city to dam is Anjangaon Surji ,Taluka Anjangaon Surji in Amravati District of Maharashtra . The dam is an Earth fill Dam .The purpose of the Dam is Irrigation,Drinking / Water Supply.The Length of dam is 540 m ( 1771.65 Feet ) , while the Height of the dam above lowest foundation is 16.8 m ( 55.1181 Feet ) . Any type of information about the Project has Ogee type of Spillway . Length of the spillway is .not known. The Dam has ungated spillway. .Dam's catchment area is not known . Maximum / Gross storage capacity is 1.44 MCM. Live storage capacity is 1.21 MCM. Now a days almost all the water bodies make for good picnic spots Tongalphodi Lake is also a popular picnic spot for its scenic beauty .

We bathed in spillway of this Dam on sixth of September 2009 during sickle cell detection camp at Garajdari.Twelve percent villagers of Garajdari were detected as patients of sickle cell anemia in this camp. They were given genetic counseling and advised for further electrophoresis tests and medical aid from government of Maharashtra.
