ValuJet Flight 592 Crash Site

Approximate location of where ValuJet Flight 592 crashed on May 11, 1996. There were 110 fatalities (all of the passengers and flight crew) in this aircraft accident. Notice the black pool of oil in what should be a green area. That is the jet fuel from the McDonald Douglas DC9, and it is still there today.

this is quite scary what are the odds of two plane crashes, over level ground, so far from an airport crashing so close, just 3.5 miles. lightning never strikes twice in the same place but, seemingly' planes do, well allmost

It is a weird coincidence where they crashed; however, the two crashes were over 23 years apart and due to completely different reasons: One was pilot error during due to the pilot tending to remedy an equipment malfunction instead of watching the flight instruments (Eastern Flight 401). The other crashed due to a plane improperly loaded with hazardous content and subsequent fire (Valujet Flight 592).

The Eastern Airlines plane crashed at a narrow angle (although there were some fatalities), and due to the dry season of this region, the plane landed in swampy but very shallow water. The Valujet craft was completely destroyed, with no survivors, as it crashed nearly nose-first at a very step angle into much deeper and very swampy/turgid water (June is typically the rainy season).

Similar crash site, but completely different types of aviation accidents.
