"Majlis Al Jinn" Cave

Majlis al Jinn (or Majlis al-Jin) is the ninth-largest cave chamber in the world, as measured by the surface area of the floor. It is located in a remote area of the Selma Plateau at 1,380 meters above sea level in the Sultanate of Oman.

Majlis al Jinn is a single chamber measuring about 310 meters by 225 meters, with a domed ceiling 120 meters high. The totally free-standing roof is only about 40 meters thick over most of the cave. The deepest part of the cave is 178 meters below the top of the Asterisk drop, the highest entrance.

The volume of the chamber is approximately 4,000,000 cubic meters, and the floor area is 58,000 square meters.

  • Not only nice.. It's a once in a life-time experience to go down the 160 meter rope walk around on the cave floor and then climb up the 160 rope again.
  • where is possible to hire climbing rope and equipement in oman?
  • Access is currently banned by The Govt, due to likelihood of damage to the Roof & cave (not to mention the tourists going down a rope over 120m). There are plans to allow access to the cave system, but not sure when or what.....
